In 1900, there was a move to re-establish Alton’s Market. Gradually it grew – especially after the arrival of Alfred J Martin. By the time of WWI, there were weekly sales of farm animals and large numbers of eggs and poultry. This book follows the Market through its highs and lows and has illustrations including copies of those which used to hang in the offices of Martin & Stratford. Many readers may remember the Dead Stock Auctions and the old Auction Mart building.
